Empowering the Next Generation of Cyberinfrastructure Innovators Across Hawaiʻi and the Pacific

The University of Hawaiʻi recently hosted its inaugural CyberInfrastructure Summer Immersion Program (CI-SIP), a four-week virtual program for ten undergraduate students across the Pacific. The program provided hands-on experience with advanced computing tools and mentorship, guiding students from diverse academic backgrounds through the data life cycle. They developed projects that addressed real-world challenges in health and sustainability, gaining valuable skills in data science and artificial intelligence and preparing them to become future innovators in cyberinfrastructure.


UH Students Tackle Real-World Issues at AI Hackathon

Over 35 University of Hawaiʻi students recently participated in the Aloha Data: AI Hackathon for Hawaiʻi’s Resilience. The three-day event challenged students to use Google Cloud AI tools to develop innovative solutions for local challenges. The winning team, Untrained Parameters, created the Hawaiʻi Climate Explorer, a web app that visualizes climate data. The hackathon offered students hands-on experience and mentorship, helping them apply their skills to real-world issues impacting Hawaiʻi's resilience.
